Recap of 2009 event
Event summary:
Many participants had never been to the City Park. They didn't know there was a walking track around the play area. State representative Rocky Adkins spoke as a cancer survivor. He said Second Sunday is a great program and UK Extension and Little Sandy Health District should be complimented for the wonderful work they do. He urged everyone to get early screenings. Cancer, like many of the other health problems we have can be caught early and treated much more successfully if you get screenings. Don Rigsby talked about two years of dieting and loosing 115 pounds. He told the group, "if I can do it anyone can do it." Don lost his weight by cutting calories and increasing physical activity. Because he has lost weight, his blood pressure has gone down, he has more energy, and can think clearer. Amanda Dickerson, a young mother whose child was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 5 told the group to please monitor your children and take them for a physical if you notice anything abnormal because diabetes speaks silently and through different voices. She added, "if you are overweight, please do something about it. Once you get diabetes, there's no cure."
